About
As a multidisciplinary artist, sculptor, and designer with over 26 years of international experience, my artistic practice is rooted in cultural storytelling, environmental sustainability, and community engagement. I draw from both traditional Sri Lankan aesthetics and contemporary design, creating works that are not only visually impactful but also socially and environmentally meaningful. My projects often repurpose discarded or recycled materials, transforming them into vibrant public artworks that spark dialogue and invite reflection.
I have created large-scale sculptures, murals, and installations in Sri Lanka, China, Australia, Dubai, Kuwait, Singapore, India, and Canada, with recognition from international institutions including National Geographic (2024). Since relocating to Edmonton, I have embraced the opportunity to contribute to this city’s diverse and growing arts community. Recent collaborations include a community mural with my son Don for The Cabin Pub + Party, celebrating the Edmonton Oilers’ playoff run, and ongoing work with the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts. I also teach at Canvastone Children’s Art Studio, where I mentor young artists and foster creativity in the next generation.
My approach to public art emphasizes accessibility, inclusivity, and resonance with the community. I believe art has the power to uplift, heal, and unite people, and my goal is always to create works that reflect the character of the space while engaging those who experience it daily. In the case of Edmonton neighbourhoods, I am attentive to their diversity, vibrancy, and sense of community pride. My artistic interest lies in capturing and amplifying these qualities through colour, design, and storytelling, ensuring the work feels both rooted in its place and welcoming to all.
Through my practice, I strive to create public art that is not only aesthetically engaging but also meaningful—art that reflects the neighbourhood, celebrates its people, and becomes a source of connection and joy.
